Vyagrapureeswarar Temple -Perumpuliyur, Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu (276 Shiva Sthalangal)

Vyagrapureeswarar Temple is a Hindu temple situated in Perumpuliyur near Thiruvaiyaru, in Tamil Nadu, India, Thanjavur district. This Shivastalam has situated 16 Km away from Thanjavur. Nearby is the Vaishnava Divya Desam that is dedicated to Sundararaja Perumal. It is considered the 53rd in Tevara Stalams sequence in the Kingdom of Chola situated north of the Kaveri River.

Lord Shiva is a swayambumurthy. While traditionally the Navagrahas the nine planets are facing different directions in temples, they are facing Sun-Surya in this temple.

This temple covers an area of approximately 1.5 acres and has a tiered Rajagopuram. The main shrine as well as the Ambal shrine face east. Interestingly, the Navagraha shrine is built in such a way that 8 of the celestial bodies are facing Surya.

Ardhanareeswara is enshrined in Lingodbhava. Surya, Ganesha and Skanda are also granted shrines.
