This is one of the 276 Devara Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalams and 3rd Shiva Sthalam on the northern bank of the Cauvery River in Chozha Nadu (Vadakarai). Lord Shiva in this temple is a (self-manifested) Swayambumurthi. This temple facing east has a single corridor and a 5-tiered main tower (Rajagopuram).
