Sri Sishta Gurunathar Temple - Tiruthurayur,Cuddalore,Tamil Nadu(276 Shiva Sthalangal)

His is one of the 276 Devara Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalams in Nadu Naadu and the 15th Shiva Sthalam. Lord Shiva is a (self-manifested) Swayambumurthi in this temple. This temple facing west has no main tower (Raja Gopuram) and has one corridor.

The temple is located on the Pennai / Malattaru river’s south side. From Sundarar’s hymn to this temple it is known that the river flowed on the northern side of the temple during his time, but now it flows on the opposite side. This place ‘s historical name is Thiruthuraiyur but now it’s known as Thiruthalur.

This village was earlier named, according to the stone inscriptions, “Rajaraja Valanattuth Thirumunaippadi Thiruthuraiyur ». Here the lord is called Thava Neri Aludaiyar.

In the halls, besides the shrines of the principal deities, there are shrines and idols of lords Narthana Vinayakar, Bala Murugan, Natarajar, Rama Lingam, Bheema Lingam, Adi Kesava Pakthavatsala Perumal, Subramanyar with his consorts, Dakshinamurthy, Annamalaiyar, Durgai, Chandikeswarar, Kalabairavar, Surya Lingam, Suryan, Nalvar and Navagraham.
