Sri Mahalinga Swamy ‘s temple is revered as a sacred shrine on par with Varanasi. This temple ‘s history relates back to a time when King Varaguna Pandiya ‘s horse accidentally killed a brahmin.
Brahmahatya Dosha is deemed the curse of murdering a Brahmin and is considered one of the worst offences. To stop the curse’s vengeance, the king took refuge in the temple of Lord Mahalinga Swamy.
The king entered through the first door, and he left through the reverse door after he had concluded his prayer against the lord.
