263rd Devara Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 5th, Kongu Nadu Sthalam. St Arunagirinathar came to visit
This shrine in Thiruppugazh, and glorified it.

During 1977 the temple was swept away by extreme flooding in the Kudaganaaru dam, saving the principal deity, and Griha Garbha. It was restored in the 1982 year. This temple is only 10-12 feet underground, but the level of the road which shows the potential impact of flood damage.
