Parmaramba Devi Temple is dedicated to Goddess Pramarambika, a form of Goddess Parvati. Pramarambika Devi, the wife of Mallikarjuna Swami, the manifestation of Lord Shiva.
The word Pramaramba means “mother of bees”. According to legend, Goddess Pramaramba freed thousands of bees with six legs to kill a demon named Arunasuran.

He cut the corpse of the Goddess with his Divine Sudarshan Chakra; Due to this different parts of the body fell in different places.
Every place where a part of the Goddess fell is considered a Shakti Peetha. The neck of the Goddess is said to have fallen here in Srisailam…
