Kolhapur is a city in the western Indian state of Maharashtra, on the banks of the Panchaganga River. It is known for its temples, as is the ancient Mahalakshmi Temple, a site of Hindu pilgrimage. The Bhavani Mandap is an impressive old palace with a small museum with stuffed wild animals on display. Near by, gardens surround Rankala Pool. The Jyotiba Temple hilltop complex is on the outskirts of the town.
