The Temple of Thiruvanchikulam Mahadeva, situated in Kottapuram, 6 km from Kodungallur, in the district of Thrissur, dates back to the 8th century.
During the reign of the Chera dynasty, it was designed.
The family god of the Cochin royal family was the presiding god, Lord Mahadeva.
Designed in the architectural style of Kerala, the temple features a Namaskara Mandapam, in front of the sanctum sanctorum, a prayer hall with 16 pillars.
There is a strong set of mural paintings in the temple that depict several scenes from Hindu mythology. The temple is renowned for its rituals as well.
