This pagoda style Muktinath Temple is also one of the 108 Vaishnava temples. Here in the early 19th century Hindus consecrated a Vishnu temple, named Muktinath – Lord of Liberation.
The shrine is said to have originated on its own and is one of eight such temples (the others are Srirangam, Sri Mushnam, Tirupati, Naimicharanyam, Thottatri, Pushkaram and Badrinath).
There are 108 waterways in the backyard of this temple called Muktidara, where the frozen water flows continuously from the bullhead and two kundas (ponds in front of the temple). It is believed that bathing in these 108 waterways and two kundas (pools) will bring salvation..
