This district is also the center of folk art and there are many centers for crafts.   Thiruchendur Murugan temple is Lord Muruga‘s second Arupadai Veedu, which should not be skipped.

Currently, the city has returned to its original Thoothukudi name. It is a port town and boasts extremely beautiful beaches that encourage tourists to admire the city for its unparalleled natural beauty. Pearl fishing is a major industry in the region that has received the epithet of being the ‘pearl city’ for Tuticorin.

In ancient days, Tuticorin was known as ‘Korkai.’ After independence, commercial trade through Tuticorin to neighboring countries increased. Now, the port of Tuticorin is one of India’s 12 major ports. Pearl City, Muthu Kuzhithurai, and the Sea Gateway of Tamilnadu are also known as Tuticorin.

The temple of Thiruchendur Murugan is the second most powerful temple among Lord Murugan‘s six holy adobes. Among the six, this is the only temple situated on the seashore. The Raja Gopuram is normally on the eastern side of the temples in Tamil Nadu. But Raja Gopuram is alone in Thiruchendur on the western side.

The Port of Tuticorin is called V.O. The port of Chidambaranar is named after the famous Liberty Warrior. This port is the 2nd largest port in Tamil Nadu and is India’s 4th largest container terminal. This port was opened in 1974 and is an all-weather port that can accommodate millions of tons of freight.

Hare Island, which is also known as Pandyan Theevu, is located 6 km east of Tuticorin. It is the largest island in the Mannar Gulf. Church Island (Van Theevu) is one of the popular islands 12 km from Tuticorin, which is a perfect place for weekends to visit.

It is one of the popular tourist spots near Thiruchendur, also known as the Serinivasaperumal Temple of Sri Punnai. Vanathirupathi is a quiet place with lovely wall paintings. Here, every day, sun rays fall on the lord’s right side.
