Temple Visit From Tuticorin To Shirdi:
Thoothukudi was renowned for its pearl diving and shipbuilding (hence the nickname Pearl City (Muthu Nagaram in Tamil). In the early 20th century, with leaders such as the poet Subramanya Bharathy, Veerapandiya Kattabomman, Venni Kalady, Vellaya Thevan, and V.O.C, Thoothukudi became the nucleus of the Indian independence movement.
Thoothukudi’s economy is based on shipping, fishing, salt pan, mineral and agricultural industries (nearby cultivation of rice and palmyrah trees from which jaggery is made). In this district 30 per cent of India’s salt is made. V. O. Chidambaranar Port is one of India’s major harbours, the second largest port after Chennai Port in Tamil Nadu.
Some of Tuticorin ‘s famous parks include Roche Park, Harbour Beach Park, Nehru Park, and Rajaji Park. Other than these, a tourist can enjoy a great beach holiday in Thoothukudi, as this town in Tamil Nadu is blessed with some beautiful beaches like Muthu Nagar New Beach and Pearl City Beach. One does not find many activities on these beaches, but the views of the sunset are relaxing and watching are best things to do .
Tuticorin has a temple of Tiruchendur dedicated to Lord Subramanya; it offers a beautiful sight with a mystical aura with a backdrop of the sea. You can also visit Panchalankurichi, about 18 km from Tuticorin, where in the 17th century AD, the great warrior Katta Bomman, known as “Veerapandiya Kattabomman,” defied the British regime.
The formidable Kattabomman Memorial Fort, preserved by India’s Archeological Survey, can also be enjoyed. Those interested in historical extravagance can visit the palace of Ettaiyapuram, built during the reign of the Madurai Pandyas. A visit to the Basilique of a Lady of Snows is a must. The church was founded some 400 years ago and is known among all cultures for its ancient and sacredness.
One of the famous places to visit in Shirdi, which also happens to be one of India ‘s renowned Hindu shrines, is Sri Shirdi Sai Baba Temple. Dedicated to Sri Sai Baba, the temple remains open from early morning to late evening for devotees. The aarti timings listed below would therefore be ideal for paying a visit to this temple.
For devotees, one of the best places to visit in Shirdi is Dwarkamai. People of faith believe that the heart of Shirdi is Dwarkamai, as it is the place where the great Sai Baba, including his last moments, spent a significant part of his life. The best thing about this attraction is that the only mosque with a temple in it happens to be Dwarkamai.
One of the many places to visit near Shirdi temple is considered to be Khandoba Mandir. Dedicated to Khandoba’s presiding deity (another form of Lord Shiva), Shirdi Sai Baba is believed to have first decided to make this temple his home, but Mahalsapati thought he was a Muslim and did not allow him to stay there. This is one of the best tourist locations in Shirdi.
Kolhapur stands on the banks of the river Panchganga, and is home to the famous Temple of Shri Mahalakshmi. Located about 220 km from Pune, Maharashtra ‘s cultural capital, Kolhapur is famous for its unique jewellery design and for the Kolhapuri chappals that are common for their extremely stiff sole.
Following a tiff with her husband Lord Vishnu, Goddess Mahalaxmi began residing in Kolhapur according to Hindu mythological belief. It is assumed that Tirupati Balaji and Kolhapur Mahalaxmi are tied up in marriage. In the Bhagvadgita, Kolhapur is mentioned. According to legend, Amoghavarsha, the then king of the area offered his fingers as an offering to Mahalakshmi, the goddess, for relief.
Among the finest examples of early Buddhist civilisation are a collection of 29 caves, the Ajanta Ellora caves, influenced by Buddhist architecture. In these caves, paintings portraying the Jataka tales and other various Buddha storeys come to life. One of the most popular tourist attractions in the world, the caves of Ajanta and Ellora are unparalleled examples of excellent art and engineering.
One such excavation is the Kailasa Temple, which is one of the world’s largest monolithic buildings. All year round, over the decades and to the present day, this temple has drawn pilgrims. Renuka Temple is the site of tourist interest in Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmour district. The place is about forty kilometres from Nahan and is connected by motor roads. The lake here is a perfect boating attraction for visitors. The lake is oval shaped and has a 2.4 kilometre diameter. Near by is the Parshuram Lake shaped like a human form.
