Shirdi is a small Indian city dedicated to the famous saint Sai Baba. He advocated tolerance of all religions and fair treatment to all nations. Every day about 60,000 devotees flock to Shirdi, as an important place of pilgrimage for people of all faiths. This is one of India’s busiest places of pilgrimage.
The Shirdi Sai Baba was an Indian guru. His birthplace and date are uncertain, but he died on October 15, 1918. His body was buried in the Shirdi temple complex. His teachings blended elements of Islam and Hinduism. Most Hindu devotees believe him to be Lord Krishna’s incarnation while other devotees find him to be Lord Dattatreya’s incarnation.
Many devotees think he was either a Satguru, a holy Sufi Pir, or a Qutub. The real name of Sai Baba is likewise unknown. When he arrived at Shirdi, he was given his name “Sai” to attend a wedding. A local priest in the temple remembered him as a Muslim saint, and greeted him with the words ‘Ya Sai! ‘Welcome Sai, sense! ‘. His fame started to spread to Mumbai after 1910, and then to all of India. A lot of people visited him because they believed he could perform miracles.
Shirdi is in Maharashtra, roughly 250 kilometers (143 miles) northeast of Mumbai, and 90 kilometers (56 miles) southeast of Nashik. Through Mumbai, it is accessed most popularly. Traveling time by bus is between seven and eight hours. Daytime or overnight bus can be taken. Travel time by train varies from six to twelve hours. It has three trains, both running overnight. Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Kolkata flies from SpiceJet. IndiGo recently added Delhi and Chennai to regular non-stop flights.
Pune is a sprawling town in Maharashtra, a western Indian state. Previously, it was the nucleus of the Maratha Empire’s Peshwas (prime ministers), which lasted from 1674 to 1818. Established in 1892 and now a memorial to Mahatma Gandhi, whose ashes are kept in the park, it is known for the grand Aga Khan Palace. The Pataleshwar Cave Temple dated from the 8th century is devoted to the Hindu god Shiva.
Home to ashrams and palaces, museums, and universities (the intellectual prestige of Pune has also won it the nickname “The East Oxford”), the city offers a splendid blend of old and modern. The main attractions in Pune are OSHO ASHRAM, KARLA CAVES, SINHAGAD FORT, DAGADUSETH HALWAI GANAPATI TEMPLE, PATALESHWAR CAVE TEMPLE, AGA KHAN PALACE, INDEPENDENCE BREWING COMPANY, RAJA DINKAR KELKAR MUSEUM, BLUEFROG, SHANIWAR WADA.
