Tuticorin is historically renowned for its fishing and shipbuilding of pearls. It was an important seaport during the reign of the Pandyas. As a pearl diving and fishing hub, the main harbour of Thoothukudi is well known. History shows that Thoothukudi was established in 1548 by the Portuguese, annexed in 1658 by the Dutch, and ceded in 1825 to the British.

The Tuticorin Attractions

As a port city, Tuticorin, in the form of Tuticorin Port, has one of the main attractions, which is strategically designed to handle a host of foreign cargo. You will witness the sight of the container loading and unloading, well shielded from the ravages of imminent storms and cyclonic waves, which is also worth a treat in the midst of the rising sea expanse.

Tuticorin has a temple of Tiruchendur dedicated to Lord Subramanya; it offers a beautiful sight with a mystical aura with a backdrop of the sea. You can also visit Panchalankurichi, about 18 km from Tuticorin, wherein the 17th century AD, the great warrior Katta Boman, known as "Veerapandiya Kattabomman," defied the British regime.

You can also admire the formidable Kattabomman Memorial Fort, preserved by India's Archaeological Survey. Those interested in the historical extravagance may tour to Ettaiyapuram Palace, which was built during the reign of the Pandyas of Madurai. A must-visit is the Basilica of the Lady of the Snows. The church was founded some 400 years ago and is known among all cultures for its antiquity and sacredness.

Tuticorin has quite a few well-maintained hotels where, at any stage of the day, you can check-in. These hotels are very spacious and there is also good quality food served. Some hotels sell you luxurious suits with A / C. You can also get taxis from the hotel itself.

Next to Dwarkamai, where Sai Baba used to sleep every alternate night, is this sacred spot. Sai Baba was brought to Chavadi by his disciples in the decorated Palkhi. The tradition of spending alternate nights at Chavadi, his Mahanirvan, started on 10 December 1909 and continued until 1918. Today, every Thursday night Baba's footprints are brought from Dwarkamai to Chavadi in a ceremonial procession.

Nashik is an ancient holy city in Maharashtra, a state in western India. It is known for its connexion to the epic poem "Ramayana". On the Godavari River is Panchavati, a temple complex. Lord Rama was thought to have bathed nearby in the Ram Kund water tank, attended by Hindu devotees today.

City buses and auto-rickshaws are available from different corners of the city to reach the temple. This temple is intended to stand on the spot where Lord Ram lived in secret exile. It was constructed in 1782 on the site of an old wooden temple by Sardar Rangrao Odhekar.
