Mumbai

Mumbai is a densely populated town on the West coast of India. A banking hub, it’s the biggest city in India. The landmark Indian stone arch gateway, designed by the British Raj in 1924, stands on the shores of Mumbai Harbour. The neighboring Elephanta Island offshore houses ancient cave temples devoted to the Hindu god Shiva. Even famous for the city as the center of the Bollywood film industry. Mumbai is home to three UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Elephanta Caves, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, and the distinctive Victorian and Art Deco architectural ensemble of the city. Mumbai is India’s capital of trade, retail, and culture. The entrance from the sea into Mumbai Harbor reveals a magnificent panorama framed on the mainland by the Western Ghats mountain range. The wide harbor, lined with islands and dotted with countless small craft’s white sails, provides ships with safe shelter, especially when storms lash the coast. The largest of the islands in the harbor is Elephanta, famed for its Hindu cave temples of the 8th and 9th centuries. Coconut palms, mango trees, tamarinds, and banyan trees are common trees in the region. Once upon a time, Salsette Island was the home of wild animals such as lions, leopards, jackals, and deers. Yet some aren’t there any longer. Animal life now includes cows, oxen, sheep, goats, and other domestic species, and monkeys. Birdlife comprises vultures, pigeons, peacocks, cranes, ducks. Mumbai is a pleasant holiday resort situated near the Kanheri Caves; the caves, numbering over 100, were the site of an ancient Buddhist university and contain gigantic Buddhist sculptures dating from the 2nd to 9th century BCE. There are many public gardens, including the Jijamata Udyan, which houses Mumbai’s zoo in the town itself; the Baptista Garden, situated in a water reservoir, also in the middle of the town.

India gate

India Gate, official name Delhi Memorial, originally called All-India War Memorial, New Delhi’s monumental sandstone arch, dedicated to British Indian troops who had died in wars. India Gate at the eastern end of the Rajpath (formerly known as the Kingsway) is about 42 meters (138 feet ) long. Arch, a curved member in architecture and civil engineering that is used for spanning an opening and supporting loads from above. The Arch provided the foundation for the vault’s development. Modern steel, concrete, or laminated wood arches are highly stiff and lightweight, making the horizontal thrust against the supports small; this thrust can be further reduced by stretching a tie between the arch ends. India Gate, an important city monument, is a memorial built to commemorate over 80,000 Indian soldiers killed during the First World War. The monument is an imposing 42-meter-high arch, designed by the famous architect Edwin Lutyens. Earlier, India Gate was named All India War Memorial. At the gate was inscribed 13,300 names of servicemen and several United Kingdom troops and police. This structure, called Amar Jawan Jyoti, has served as the unknown soldier’s Indian tomb since 1971.
