Coimbatore was wanted by the Mysore sultans as well as British forces during the Anglo-Mysore Wars. The town was taken over by British East India Company troops in 1768, but they were forced to leave it because of treachery. Colonel Fullarton occupied the region in 1783 but later returned to Tipu Sultan as an accomplice.

They were forced to give up. Colonel Fullarton invaded the region in 1783, but by the Mangalore Treaty, he later returned to Tipu Sultan. At the beginning of the Third Mysore War, Coimbatore was, again, captured by the British. Tipu Sultan besieged the city twice and repulsed in the first, succeeded in the second, and surrendered in October 1791 to Coimbatore. The officers of the garrison, Lieutenant Chalmers and Lieutenant Nash were brought as prisoners to Seringapatnam. At the top, at the top
