Situated in Maharashtra's Ahmednagar district, Shirdi is one of India's most important religious destinations. It is located just 190 km from Pune and 240 km from Mumbai. The town is considered to be the birthplace of the great saint Sai Baba who passed away in 1918. While Sai Baba 's true name and birthplace are not known, he is thought to have arrived at Shirdi.
The Dwarawati Bhaktiniwas Shirdi Trust Complex is within a walking distance from the bus stand. It provides accommodation at reasonably affordable prices for small groups or families in dormitories and AC, as well as non-AC rooms. There are many hotels outside the temple complex. Some bus operators have hotel tie-ups and this can work out cheaper during the peak season and save time.
Shirdi was the birthplace of the great 20th-century saint Sai Baba. Baba lived in Shirdi for more than half a century, that is, he spent more than 50 years of his life transforming this insignificant little village into a massive pilgrimage site, where devotees from all over the world used to come to visit him and give their prayers.
Visitors should schedule their trip along Shirdi's three major festivals-Guru Purnima, Dussehra and Ram Navami. Renuka is a Hindu goddess primarily worshipped in the Maharashtra and southern Indian states of Karanataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Renuka 's temple at Maharashtra is considered one of the shakti peethas.
Story of the temple at Renuka:
Renuka's legends are found in the Mahabharata, the Harivamsa, and the Bhagavata Purana. Goddess Renuka is known for her chastity. Once her husband Jamadagni felt thirsty and asked his wife for water, but Renuka devi was unable to find water because of the drought so she went to kailash with her deadly body with the aid of her chastity and asked Lord Shankara to give water for her.
One of the holiest Hindu pilgrimage sites in India is the Grishneshwar Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Located approximately 35 km from Aurangabad City and approximately 2 km from the UNESCO-listed Ellora Caves, it is home to the 12th and last Jyotirlinga on earth. It is an ancient shrine which finds mention in one of the sacred scriptures in Hinduism, the Shiva Purana.
Temples are usually considered to have their origins before the 13th century. The temple faced frequent destruction during the 13th and 14th centuries, under the rule of the Delhi Sultanate. Maloji Bhosale who was the grandfather of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj restored it in the 16th century. And after this the temple suffered assaults.
Built in the typical architectural style of the South Indian temple, the Grishneshwar Temple shows an elaborately designed five-tier shikhara. The temple complex consists of a sanctum sanctorum, a square room measuring approximately 289 square feet, and chambers inside.
This small village lies 65 km from Shirdi. The village's most surprising aspect is that the people don't build a door to their home. You can see that not even one house has doors because people in this village believe that the god Shani Bhagawan protects them from evils and theft and their possessions.
God Shani Bhagawan (Planet Saturn) has a temple, where only male devotees are allowed to offer prayers. The God's Idol consists of Black Stone and it's very big. Male devotees have to take a bath in the bathrooms near the temple, and should only wear dhotis and not shirts that worship the god Shani.
