Arulmigu Kalyana Pasupatheswarar Temple - Karur, Tamil Nadu (276 Shiva Sthalangal)

Pasupateeswarar temple, Karur is situated in Karur, and is one of Kongu Nadu ‘s seven Sivastalams. During the time of Sambandar ‘s visit to this temple this city was called karuvoor.

This is one of Kongu Nadu’s 276 Devara Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalams, and 7th Sthalam.

The holy bovine – goddess Kamadenu is also thought to have worshipped Lord Shiva here. On the Lingam her hoof mark is visible. The name Ahnilaiyappar is derived from the place word “Ah” word cow (Kamadenu) and “nilai.”

Existence of this Siddhar is a significant part of the history of this temple. The storey goes that some Brahmins complained to the king that the Siddhar was pursuing the Vama Margam-giving the Lord wine and meat-against Karuvurar Siddhar.
